Library News

LIBRARY HOURS — 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Children’s programs

Baby Story Time will be held at 10 a.m. Mondays from now to Oct. 15. Registration is required.

Toddler Story Time will be held at 11 a.m. Mondays from now to Oct. 15. Registration is required.

Preschool Story Time will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays from now to Oct. 16. Registration is required.

Independent Preschool Story Time will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays from now to Oct. 18.

Make it Mondays will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Mondays from now to Oct. 15. No registration is required.

LittleBits Library Makerspace will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays from now to Oct. 17. No registration is required.

All-ages programs

The Knitting Club meets at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

Lego club

At 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, complete Lego challenges and explore a different Lego theme every month. For children ages 5 to 12.

BPOvations: Meet the conductor

At 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, meet Todd Craven, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s new assistant conductor, and learn about his path from the trumpet section of the Sarasota Orchestra to the BPO. He’ll share insights about the role of an assistant conductor, how he prepares for rehearsals and concerts and various styles of communication used by conductors, including notables Bernstein, Dudamel and others. No registration required.

Halloween costume contest

From 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, come to the library to show off your Halloween costume. Registration is required. Best for ages 10 and under. Call 662-9851 to register.

Books and cookies book club

From 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, come for conversations about Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher.”

STEAM Saturday

At 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, come to the library to read books and use science and art to complete a craft. In October, everyone is thinking about candy so those attending will be reading some candy stories and doing some creepy and cool candy experiments. Registration is required. Best for ages 4 to 12 with a caregiver.

The Hazelnut: A Literary Journal

Are you interested in becoming a published author? Submissions are open for the library’s first seasonal literary journal, The Hazelnut. This fall, the library will accept submissions for short story, poetry and nonfiction essay, or photo journalism. All ages are encouraged to participate. The submission deadline is Thursday, Nov. 1. Entries will be judged by library staff. Copies of the publication will be printed and available to read and check out. Participants are encouraged to submit short stories and nonfiction essays up to 3,000 words. Poets are allowed to submit up to two works.
