Benenati to discuss Italian customs

The Orchard Park Senior Center, 70 Linwood Ave., offers many programs for people older than 55. Contact the center at 662-6452 to register for programs. The Senior Center director is Debbie Santiago.

Weekly events include bridge at 12:30 p.m. Mondays; mind aerobics at 1 p.m. Mondays; bingo at 1 p.m. Tuesdays; popcorn and a movie at 1 p.m. Wednesdays; knitting at 1 p.m. Thursdays; and pinochle at 1 p.m. Fridays.

Food synergy — At 12:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, Miranda Zagorski, a health coach, will discuss what vitamins and minerals are and their importance. She will also go over how to read a nutrition label and what to look for. Register in the office.

Growing up Italian — Center member Joe Benenati will discuss his experience of growing up in an Italian family in the 1940s and ’50s. He will speak on his experiences, customs, and importance of family and food.

Intermediate tap dance — will be held at 10 a.m. Thursdays from now through Oct. 25. The cost of the eight-week session is $30.

Men’s fitness — will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from now through Oct. 4. The cost of the 10-week session is $40.

Tai chi for arthritis — will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays from now through Oct. 11. The class is free.

Sketch class — will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesdays from now through Oct. 10. The cost of the six-week session is $25.

Advanced tai chi — will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesdays Sept. 19 through Nov. 14. The cost of the eight-week session is $30.

Mind aerobics will be held at 1 p.m. Mondays. There is no cost for the brainteaser activity.

Bingo will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesdays. Boards for the hourlong program are $1.

Mahjong will be held at 1 p.m. Fridays.

The meal calendar is as follows: Sept. 17, beef macaroni; Sept. 18, breaded chicken breast; Sept. 19, turkey; Sept. 20, breaded boneless pork chop.
