Senior Center looking for Asian mahjong

The Orchard Park Senior Center is trying to start an Asian mahjong group to meet at the center at 1 p.m. Mondays. The center is looking for players, and no experience is necessary. To sign up to play, call the center at 662-6452 or send an email to opsenior@orchard parkny.org.

Community church sets couples event

Fun and Faith will present “A Nite to Remember for Couples” at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at the Windom Community Church, 3766 Abbott Road. The event will feature pastor and comedian Steve Geyer and love songs from Dan Macaulay. The event focuses on spouses appreciating differences, fostering better communication, adding sizzle and overcoming conflict. Tickets are $15. Side-by-Side concert slated for Feb. 16

The Southtowns Youth Orchestra will join the Orchard Park Symphony for the annual Side-by-Side youth concert. The concert will be held from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Orchard Park High School, 4040 Baker Road. Orchard Park native and violinist Angel Rhodes will join the orchestra for Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin in E Minor. Tickets are available at the door for $15 for adults and $10 for seniors. Students are admitted free of charge.

Discussion planned on sex abuse scandals

Lifetree Cafe will host a discussion on the fallout from recent sexual abuse allegations. The program, “In the News: Sexual Misconduct,” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the cafe, 3766 Abbott Road. During the program, participants will have the opportunity to discuss how to know when someone has crossed a line from accidental misconduct to sinister behavior. Spaghetti dinner set for Feb. 25

The Holy Name Society of Queen of Angels Parish will hold a Taste of Italy spaghetti dinner from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, at the parish center, Electric Avenue and Warsaw Street, Lackawanna. The full course includes all-you-can-eat pasta, a dessert and beverage. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12. There will be bell jar raffles and a split club at the event. Hunter’s Hope to mark 20th anniversary

The Hunter’s Hope Foundation will celebrate its 20th anniversary at the 2018 Hunter’s Day of Hope and Prayer for Children, set for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the ADPRO Sports Training Center, One Bills Drive. The free event includes food, activities and live entertainment. More than 25 organizations, businesses and companies are bringing games and activities for families to enjoy as well as food and beverages for all guests. Methodist church to host ‘Ashes to Go’

The Orchard Park United Methodist Church will present “Ashes to Go” from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the church, 3700 N. Buffalo St. The church is taking the ancient tradition of Ash Wednesday and its practice of imposition of ashes by offering prayer and ashes out in the church’s parking lot to people who drive through in their cars.

‘Lunch and Learn’ seminar planned for Feb. 15

Mike Gannon, a select manager at West Herr, will present “Discover a no-cost auto buying plan for your employees” as part of the Orchard Park Chamber of Commerce’s “Lunch and Learn” seminars. The seminar will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in the chamber office, 6524 E. Quaker St. Gannon will explain West Herr’s VIP vehicle shopping assistance, below-market vehicle pricing and how a company’s employees can participate at no-cost. Lunch is included. Cupids for Courage to be held Feb. 11

Cupids for Courage, a benefit for Ben Stromecki, will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at Mangia Ristorante & Caffe, 4264 N. Buffalo Road. Ben has been battling a brain tumor since the end of last year. Tickets to the event are $20. There will also be basket raffles and a silent auction. Call Beth Nowak at 225-0494 for presale tickets.

Varsity baseball fundraiser scheduled Feb. 12

The Orchard Park varsity baseball team will hold a fundraiser on Monday, Feb. 12, at Spot Coffee, 6519 E. Quaker St., to benefit the team’s trip to spring training On that day, 20 percent of Spot’s sales will support the team’s off-site travel expenses during training at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
