Art Segool, retired steelworker

Segool Segool Art Segool, 80, of Orchard Park, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017.

Mr. Segool was born in Lackawanna, moved to Orchard Park in 1950 and was a 1956 graduate of Orchard Park High School ,where he participated in wrestling, track and field and cross country. He was inducted into the Orchard Park Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.

Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army as a Morse code intercept in Korea. Upon returning to the U.S., he resumed his career with Bethlehem Steel, where he worked for 43 years, finishing as supervisor of plant services before retiring in 1999.

Mr. Segool was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing with family and friends. He served as a New York hunter safety instructor and taught rifle range at Camp Hickory Hill in Varysburg, New York. He was a member of the West Falls Conservation Club. In 2013, he was inducted into the New York State Outdoorsman Hall of Fame.

He also was an active member of Fellowship Wesleyan Church in West Seneca, where he served as a trustee, assisted in facility maintenance, and played “Farmer Brown” for the preschool.

Mr. Segool is survived by his wife of 59 years, Colleen; four children, Brian, Ellen, Daniel and Eric; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at Fellowship Wesleyan Church, 1645 Southwestern Blvd., West Seneca. Memorials may be made to Camp Hickory Hill, 2970 Kohler Road, Varysburg, NY 14167 or to the church.
