TWST finishes fourth at championship meet

Town Wrecker Swim Team (TWST) swimmers attended the Niagara District Long-Course Championship swim meet held at the Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center at ECC in Buffalo held from July 20-23.

This regional meet hosted the area’s top swimmers, representing their teams for top honors. TWST finished fourth in the team standings out of 26 teams. Olivia Sapio (Orchard Park) and Daniel Bowen (Hamburg) finished second for individual high-point standings for their age groups.

Bowen placed first in the 400 IM, second in the 200 backstroke, and third in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke. Sapio placed second in the 400 and 200 IM events and third in the 50 and 200 freestyle and 100 and 200 butterfly.

Other top-three finishers included Marshall Adams (East Aurora) ending up second in the 11- to 12 year-old 200 backstroke and Sophia Noecker (Eden) taking first in the 10-and-under 50 free.

TWST also had very strong relays at this competition. The boys 11-12 200 free relay with Adams, Dennis Choroser (Orchard Park), John Mallory (Hamburg) and Jaxon Bruzgal (Orchard Park) took second place, as did the 400 medley relay of Adams, Eli Noecker (Eden), Bruzgal and Choroser, and the 200 medley relay with Adams, Bruzgal, Noecker and Mallory.

Third-place finishes were had by the 13-14 boys 200 free relay with Ben Kisker (Hamburg), Keirnan Coyne (Lancaster), Luke Sapio (Orchard Park) and Christian Wilson (West Seneca), and the 400 free relay with Kisker, Coyne, Sapio and Charlie Wangelin (East Aurora).

The girls 15-and-over 400 free relay with Katrina Wardner (Orchard Park), Mary Brinker (East Aurora), Paige Pasquarella (Hamburg) and Sapio took third place. Wardner, Brinker, Sapio and Riley Drummond (Fredonia) were second in the 200 and 800 free relays. Drummond, Victoria Pruaczyk (Lancaster), Sapio and Brinker were third in the 400 medley relay.
