Management lawyer opens solo practice in OP

Upstate New York management lawyer Scott Horton officially opened his solo law venture in Orchard Park this spring.

Before relocating to the Southtowns, Horton spent five years as a partner in a law firm with an office in downtown Buffalo. Based in Orchard Park, Horton believes he will have greater flexibility meeting client needs and participating in community activities.

As a labor and employment lawyer, Horton — who has more than a decade of experience — focuses on advising employers, not employees.

“After years representing employers across New York State, I am incredibly excited to be opening my own solo practice in Orchard Park,” Horton said. “With this type of arrangement, I will be able to work more personally with clients, addressing their concerns and requirements in a highly efficient and effective manner.”

The new firm’s focuses will include hiring issues, terminations and reductions in force, collective bargaining negotiations, discrimination claims, overtime classification and calculation, disability accommodations, employee leaves and supervisor training.

Among the public and private employers Horton represents, the industries range from manufacturing, health care and professional services to municipalities, school districts and not-for-profits.

Horton has received recognition from several major attorney ratings services, including Best Lawyers in America for Employment Law and Super Lawyers — Upstate New York for Employment and Labor Law.

“Though employees are an incredible business asset, employers need help with the legal aspects of managing them, and that’s where I come in,” Horton said. “I’m determined to provide my clients with the representation they deserve, and I look forward to working with many more employers here in Erie County and surrounding areas.”
