OP Gymsters fare well on Long Island

The Orchard Park Gymsters, who train at Gymnastics Unlimited, turned in multiple gold-medal performances at the recently held Early New York State Championship Meet on Long Island.

As a team, the Gymsters were one of the squads with the most banners, as the Level 4 gymnasts placed second, the Level 6 gymnasts placed third and the Level 5 gymnast took sixth.

Individual state gold medalists included Lancaster resident Courtney Ando (Level 4 floor and all around), Orchard Park residents Hannah Selden (Level 5 floor and all around) and Trinity Tartaro (Level 6 vault), Cheektowaga resident Madison Moonan (Level 4 floor) and Elma resident Asia Streety (Level 5 beam).

Individual state silver medalists included West Seneca resident Kiersten Kahler (Level 4 floor), Elma resident Jaiden McKee (Level 4 floor and vault), Lancaster resident Courtney Ando (beam and floor), Cheektowaga resident Madison Moonan (Level 4 beam and all around), and Orchard Park residents Natalie Jerge (Level 5 beam), Kiera Callahan (Level 5 beam), Selden (Level 5 beam and bars), and Madison Tartato (Level 6 beam).

Individual state bronze medalists included Kahler (Level 4 bars), McKee (Level 4 bars), Cheektowaga resident Jordyn Moonan (Level 5 floor) and Depew resident Sydney Kaczmarek (Level 6 floor).

Others earning medals for placing included West Seneca residents Kahler (Level 4 all around, fourth), Lindsey Weissman (Level 4 beam, fourth; all around, fifth), and Gabriella Packard (Level 4 floor, sixth), Cheektowaga resident Madison Moonan (Level 4 bars, fifth), Depew resident Kaczmarek (Level 6 beam, sixth), and Orchard Park residents Jerge (Level 5 floor, fifth), Callahan (Level 5 floor, seventh), Emily Zimmerman (Level 5 bars, fourth), Jordan Gray (Level 6 bars, fourth; all around, eighth), Madison Tartaro (Level 6 all around, eighth), Trinity Tartaro (Level 6 beam, fourth; bars, fifth), and Carmen Braccio (Level 7 floor, seventh).

The Gymsters’ boys contingent, meanwhile, competed at a large invitational in Syracuse the same weekend. As a team, the Gymsters earned fourth at Level 5 and ninth at Level 4.

At Level 4, Orchard Park’s John Carroccia took first on high bar, rings and all around (86.6), as well as second on parallel bars, third on pommel horse, and fourth on vault and floor. Cheektowaga resident Ryan Sweeney, meanwhile, took sixth on pommel horse, eighth on high bar, 10th on rings and 12th on parallel bars.

At Level 5, Orchard Park’s Hayden Fogel won pommel horse and rings, while Joe Victor took first on vault. Fogel also placed second on parallel bars, fifth on vault, sixth on high bar and seventh on floor. Victor also took second on pommel horse, third on high bar and all around, fifth on floor, sixth on parallel bars and seven on rings.

East Aurora resident Jeff Matter swept all the individual events to win the Level 9 all around title.
