Quaker’s Landing presents lecture

At 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, there will be a lecture on the history of downtown Buffalo at Quaker’s Landing, 101 Sterling Drive. The guest speaker will be Joe Bieron, professor emeritus of chemistry at Canisius College. Bieron has more than 20 books published on local history.

Episcopalian course offered at St. Mark’s

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will offer a free course titled “Everything you always wanted to know about being an Episcopalian” from 9 to 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, and Sunday, Feb. 5, at the church, 6595 E. Orchard Park Middle School to host fundraiser

An Orchard Park Destination ImagiNation team will be having a fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at the Orchard Park Middle School, 60 S. Lincoln Ave. Proceeds will go to the New Hope School for Girls in the Dominican Republic. The event will include a concert, basket raffle, bake sale and a world-record attempt for the longest thumb wrestling train. Tickets are $4 for children; $3 for students; $2 for seniors; and children 5 and younger are free.

Destination ImagiNation fundraiser slated Jan. 28

The Orchard Park Destination ImagiNation Boosters will host a Monte Carlo Night from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Harvey D. Morin Post, 965 Center Road, West Seneca. Proceeds will go to the group. The evening will include various casino games, basket raffle, 50/50 drawings and silent auction. Ticket donation is $20 and can be purchased at the door. Winterfest to be held at Chestnut Ridge Park

Winterfest, the annual celebration of all things winter, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at Chestnut Ridge Park, 6121 Chestnut Ridge Road. Winterfest 2012, a free event, will include sledding, snowshoe hikes, marshmallow roasting, arts and crafts, tobogganing, snowboarding, snow sculpturing, hayrides, wood branding and a mountain bike race. Food and beverages will be available for purchase in the casino.

Sacred Heart School to hold open house

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School, 3144 Abbott Road, Orchard Park, will hold an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29. Attendees may visit the classrooms and meet teachers in all grade levels. For more information, call the school at 824-8208. Personal tours are also available.

Garden Club set to meet at church

The Orchard Park Garden Club will meet next at noon on Thursday, Feb. 2, at the Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, 4369 S. Scholarship audition slated for Feb. 7

The Women’s Committee of the Orchard Park Symphony will hold its annual music scholarship competition at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, 4369 S. Buffalo Road. The scholarship is open to all Orchard Park students in ninth through 11th grades. Scholarships totaling $1,000 will be awarded. Chamber Alliance to hold legislative forum

The Western New York Chamber Alliance is presenting its second annual State Legislative Forum from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at the Creekside, 2669 Union Road at William Street in Cheektowaga. The cost is $15 per person. To register, call 662-3366. This forum will present an opportunity to question legislators relating to business. It will be moderated by David Robinson. There will be a question and answer session with predetermined questions, as well as questions from the audience.
