49th Annual Quaker Arts Festival Sept. 18 and 19

Leek Leek The 2010 Quaker Arts Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at the Orchard Park Middle School, 60 S. Lincoln Ave.

The event, which is organized by the Orchard Park Jaycees, attracts between 50,000 and 75,000 visitors each and 75,000 visitors each year, said event organizer Beverly Leek.

A free shuttle bus service will be provided to and from the festival, leaving the Chestnut Ridge Park main lot near the tennis courts and running from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Free entertainment provided by the Jaycees runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pavilion stage in the rear of the school.

According to Leek, there will be several food items available for purchase, including pizza by Cappelli's, hot dogs, hamburgers, Italian sausage, homemade curly fries, chicken pitas, nachos with cheese, sugar waffles, kettle corn and

All proceeds from the festival are used to fund a variety of community projects.

This includes such programs as a scholarship for a high school senior, the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Yates Park, baskets for the needy during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, and the Earning by Learning summer reading program for children, which is run at the Orchard Park Library.
